World Cup Victory Provides Marketing Opportunity for U.S. Women

The United States women's soccer team brought the World Cup home again and now they have endless marketing opportunities, ranging from speaking engagementsappearancesendorsement deals and more. The team has already had a busy week, with their visibility at an all-time high following Sunday's win over the Netherlands.

The USWNT had a festive celebration parade through New York on Wednesday. Outspoken star Megan Rapinoe certainly stole the show, earning wave reviews for the speech she gave to close the event.

From there, the team crisscrossed the country to be honored at ESPN's ESPY Awards in Los Angeles. The women took home the Team of the Year award and Alex Morgan was honored as Female Athlete of the Year.

On Thursday, Rapinoe and Morgan took to Jimmy Kimmel Live, talking about their experience in the World Cup and also their continued fight for equal pay with the men's national team.

The next few months will be busy, starting with the team's victory tour, which kicks off August 3 at the Rose Bowl. Due to their success on the pitch and popularity off it, many of the players will also spend time sifting through various offers coming their way.

Rapinoe figures to be the most popular person on the speaking circuit following her strong remarks about equal pay and visiting the White House. She also could be in line to become a bestselling author, much in the same way her former teammate Abby Wambach has done.

Rapinoe was the first to get into the post-World Cup endorsement onslaught as well, posting an ad to her Twitter for the streaming service Hulu that poked fun at how athletes quickly cash in on fame.

Morgan has the team's largest social media following, with 8.6 million fans on Instagram alone. That sets her up to do even more social media campaigns, opportunities that pay the top social stars anywhere from $25,000 to $250,000 according to an interview MarketWatch did with Hollywood Branded CEO Stacy Jones.

“Alex Morgan is a social-media queen; she has 8.1 million Instagram followers. She is truly a social-media influencer,” said Jones. “And I think where we’re going to see a lot of the money that these women make, and the ways that they can leverage their brands, is through their social accounts.”

There is no question that other high-profile stars on the team, like Rose LavelleCarli Lloyd and Tobin Heath will have plenty of opportunities as well. The team has already been collectively celebrated in commercial campaigns from Nike and Budweiser.
