Urban Meyer and Other Ohio State Greats Raise Money for Cleveland-Area Church

Ohio State standouts past and present will unite for a speaking engagement July 10th in Sandusky, Ohio.  The “Walking the Talk” fundraiser will be held at the Kalahari Resort and Convention Center.

Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, former Buckeyes Ted Ginn Jr. and Troy Smith, and current College Football Playoff champion quarterback Cardale Jones will all be in attendance.  The event runs from 10:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. and is sponsored by the Chevy Network and Foster Chevrolet.

Tickets cost $55 at www.tedginnfoundation.com and the proceeds will benefit Cleveland’s Greater Friendship Baptist Church.  A silent auction will also be held to raise money.

In just three years at Ohio State, Meyer has cemented his legacy by leading the program to a national championship this past January.  He completed the task despite going through three different quarterbacks due to injury.

Over 13 seasons as a Division 1 head coach, Meyer is 142-26.  Before even arriving in Columbus, he had captured two national titles at the University of Florida.

Ginn Jr. was one of the greatest return men in Big 10 history.  He set a conference record for career punt return touchdowns and was an All-Big 10 first-team pick in 2006.

Since he has gone on to a prosperous eight-year career in the NFL.  Ginn Jr. will begin the 2015 season with the Carolina Panthers, a team he previously suited up for in 2013.

Smith got accustomed to throwing passes to Ginn Jr. in their time with the Buckeyes.  In 2006, he won the Heisman Trophy and led OSU to the BCS National Championship game.

In nearly three years as a collegiate starter, Smith cemented his legacy and has his #10 jersey retired at Ohio State.  He went on to play four seasons in the NFL and started eight games at quarterback during that time.
