Two-Time National League MVP Dale Murphy Keynotes Friends of Baseball Benefit

Two-time National League Most Valuable Player Dale Murphy made a return to his hometown of Portland, Oregon last week. He was the keynote speaker for the Friends of Baseball benefit.

The event was held on Thursday. Proceeds raised helped Friends of Baseball's efforts to provide aid and partner resources to Portland-area youth baseball and softball.

During the trip, Murphy was also able to catch his son, McKay, play football for Weber State against Portland State. Any trip back to Portland always provides him a great opportunity to reminisce about where he honed his skills that would make him one of baseball's all-time greats.

Murphy had an 18-year career and he is best known for his time with the Atlanta Braves. He won the 1982 and 1982 NL MVP and was a seven-time All-Star.

Murphy won four straight Silver Slugger Awards from 1982-85 and won five Gold Gloves from 1982-86. He led the league in home runs in 1984 and 1985.

Murphy went on to play for the Philadelphia Phillies and Colorado Rockies before retiring after the 1993 season. He is a member of the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame, Georgia Sports Hall of Fame and World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame.
