McDavid first gained acclaim playing minor hockey in the Greater Toronto Hockey League.  He was the 2011-12 GTHL Player of the Year after scoring 79 goals and adding 130 assists.

That strong play earned him an early call-up to the Ontario Hockey League where he suited up for the Erie Otters.  In McDavid’s first season, he was league Rookie of the Year and this past campaign was the Otters’ captain.

The 2014-15 season surprised no one as he put up 120 points and went on to win Canadian Hockey League Player of the Year.  McDavid also led Erie to the OHL Finals and won playoff MVP honors.
