Tennis Star Venus Williams Kicks Off Southeast Missouri State University Speaker Series Next Week

Venus Williams has stood the test of time in her sport and been an inspiration for many. She will talk about her success as the first speaker at the Southeast Missouri State University Speaker Series. 

The event takes place on September 14th at 7:30 p.m. at the Show Me Center. The tickets for "An Evening with Venus Williams" were $10 each. 

Former First Lady Laura Bush was also announced as a series speaker in February. The school also released details for their annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Dinner. 

Even at the age of 37, Williams remains a top ten singles player in the world. She has spent 11 weeks ranked as the number one player in the world during her career. 

Williams has seven Grand Slam singles titles, which ranks 12th all-time. She has played in 75 Grand Slam tournaments and reached the finals of Wimbledon this year. 

Williams has also won four Olympic medals, which is tied for the most in tennis history. She has won 49 singles titles on the WTA Tour.
