Steelers Cornerback William Gay Partners with HopeLine Verizon Against Domestic Violence

In an NFL that has had a rough year when it comes to their players and domestic violence, one athlete stands as an example to the rest.  Pittsburgh Steelers’ cornerback William Gay continues to fight against something that has torn many families apart.

Gay’s own mother was shot and killed by his stepfather.  His grandmother raised him from the time he was seven years old.

Now, Gay has released a PSA with HopeLine Verizon sharing his story.  The spot encourages individuals to donate wireless phones and accessories for the victims of domestic violence.

Gay speaks often on the issues and especially in light of the several high-profile scandals NFL players became involved in during 2014.  He also volunteers at a domestic violence shelter.

With the exception of one season, Gay has spent his entire career in Pittsburgh.  He has played on two AFC Champion teams and for one Super Bowl champion.

The Steelers selected him in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL Draft out of Louisville.  Gay was a two-way star at corner and quarterback for Florida high school powerhouse Rickards in Tallahassee.
