Soccer Icon Abby Wambach Speaks to Crowd of Over 1,000 at Power of the Purse Event

Soccer icon Abby Wambach has become one of the biggest former sports stars in the speaking world as evidenced by the crowd who turned out for her most recent engagement. Wambach spoke to over 1,000 people at a Power of the Purse event last week in Asheville, North Carolina.

Wambach addressed attendees at the Crowne Plaza resort about topics closely related to her newest bestselling book, "Wolfpack." She talked about people's individual belief systems and whether they should question them or not.

Wambach spent extensive time speaking about qualities like understanding and awareness. She also shared plenty about her own experiences, including some poignant remarks about how to deal with failure.

“Work to make the people around you better, champion other women and make failure your fuel,” Wambach said. “When women bet on themselves and do it collectively, they win.”

After becoming one of the greatest American soccer players of all-time, Wambach has gracefully moved on to the next chapter of her life as a bestselling author and speaker. She is the all-time leading scorer in international competition with 184 goals.

Wambach spent over a decade with team USA and won two Olympic gold medals and one World Cup. She was a six-time U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year.

In 2012, Wambach was named FIFA World Player of the Year. She retired in 2015, the same year she was named to the Time 100 list as one of the most influential people in the world.
