San Antonio Spurs' Kyle Anderson Wins NBA Summer League MVP

NBA Summer League can be the ultimate proving ground for young players just entering the league and those also trying to hang on to their basketball dreams.  Last week in Las Vegas was certainly the opportunity San Antonio Spurs forward Kyle Anderson sought to prove he belonged.

Anderson was named MVP of the Summer League and helped the Spurs go 5-1 over the week while also landing a spot in the championship game.  He averaged 22 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.

After playing sparingly for the veteran-laden Spurs during his rookie year, this was just the kind of showcase that Anderson needed.  During the 2014-15 season, he saw action in just 33 games while also spending time with the Austin Spurs of the D-League.

The Spurs selected him 30th overall out of UCLA in 2014.  Anderson was a do-it-all performer for the Bruins, earning All-Pac 12 honors after averaging 14.9 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 6.5 assists in his final collegiate campaign.

That season, Anderson also led the conference in assists and was a third-team All-American.  He put a nice capper on his college career by being named Most Outstanding Player as UCLA won their first Pac-12 Tournament title in six years.
