Retired Pittsburgh Steeler Charlie Batch Speaking at Point Park University Graduation

Former NFL quarterback Charlie Batch will be giving the commencement speech at a school in the city he spent the majority of his career in.  Batch will speak to Point Park University graduates on May 2nd. 

The ceremony will be held at the CONSOL Energy Center, home of the Pittsburgh Penguins and start at 10:00 a.m. with doors opening at 8:30 a.m.  Batch told the Point Park Globe that his speech theme will be “expect greatness”. 

Batch is a Homestead, Pennsylvania native who started his career with the Detroit Lions and spent a decade as the backup quarterback for the Steelers before retiring in 2012.  During that period the franchise won two Super Bowl titles. 

He is best known in the community for his variety of charitable efforts.  The Best of Batch Foundation was founded in 1999 to help families who are in difficult situations.  It helps over 3,000 kids every year. 

Point Park University is a private liberal arts university that has an endowment of $31.4 million.  The school was founded in 1933 and now has an enrollment near 4,000 students.
