Recently Retired Football Star Julius Peppers Speaks at Student-Athlete Banquet

Julius Peppers has dual status as one of the greatest and most-liked players in Carolina Panthers history. The recently retired football star is sticking around his home state and he recently participated in his first post-career speaking engagement.

Peppers was the keynote speaker, participating in a moderated question and answer session, at the Best of 910Preps banquet. There was an assembled crowd of 800 student-athletes, coaches and family members at the second annual event, which was held at the Crown Complex.

Peppers touched on an array of topics, including his entire athletic career, the current state of the Panthers and his new role with the franchise. He also gave valuable advice to the young standout athletes in attendance.

“Always trust yourself, be yourself, and do the things you need to do. Follow your own path,” Peppers said.

In addition to doing more speaking, Peppers has taken a role with Carolina as a special assistant of business operations. He bookended his career with the Panthers, spending the first eight years and last two years of his NFL tenure with the team.

Peppers had ten double-digit sack seasons and his 159.5 career sacks rank fourth in league history. He also is second all-time with 51 forced fumbles.

The Panthers originally selected Peppers with the second pick in the 2002 NFL Draft. In addition to playing in Carolina, he also played for the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers.
