USAA has found a powerful story for their latest ad campaign. They are featuring former West Point cadet turned Pittsburgh Steelers Alejandro Villanueva.
Villanueva's appearance in the commerical is part of the USAA Member Voices series. They have him describe his military career and his journey to the NFL.
USAA is The Official Military Appreciation Sponsor of the NFL. There is a 30-second spot that runs commonly during NFL broadcasts and also an extended two minute online version.
Villanueva played several positions at Army before starting his service commitment. He was an Army Ranger who served three tours of duty in Afghanistan and rose to the rank of Captain.
Villanueva also was awarded the Bronze Star for his act rescuing soldiers under fire. When he returned to the States, he went to training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2014.
The Pittsburgh Steelers eventually signed him, converted him to left tackle and placed him on their practice squad. He became the team's starting left tackle late in the 2015 season.
