Olympic Champion Mary Lou Retton Speaks at Indiana State Next Week

Olympic champion Mary Lou Retton is the next guest for the Indiana State University Speaker Series. She is making her appearance on February 28th at 7 p.m. in Tilson Auditorium.

The event titled "The Competitive Edge" is free and open to the public. ISU has had several prominent speakers on campus already this school year.

Horse trainer Bob Baffert kicked off the series on September 19th. Journalist David Quammen will be the final speaker on April 4th.

Retton became one of the most popular athletes in America after the 1984 Olympics. She won all-around gymnastics gold as well as two other silver and two bronze medals.

With her signature all-around win, Retton became the first American gymnast to accomplish the feat. That year, she was named Sportswoman of the Year by Sports Illustrated.

Retton is a member of the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame. She serves as national chairperson and a member of the Board of Governors for the Children's Miracle Network.
