Old Dominion Announces Former MLB Manager Jim Leyland as Baseball Banquet Speaker

Former MLB manager Jim Leyland has decades of baseball experience. He will share some of his insights with the Old Dominion baseball program on January 13th.

Leyland is speaking at ODU's 40th annual Baseball Banquet. The event will be held at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel.

A cocktail reception starts off the festivities at 6 p.m. and dinner begins at 7 p.m. Individual tickets run $65, but a special rate of $45 per person in a group of 20 also exists.

Leyland was a major league manager for 22 seasons, compiling a 1,769-1,728 record. He first led the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1986 and ushered in an era of winning for the franchise.

Under Leyland's watch, the Pirates won three straight division titles from 1990-92. He would leave Pittsburgh in 1997 and lead the Florida Marlins to the first World Series championship in franchise history.

From 2006-2013, Leyland experienced a career resurgence with the Detroit Tigers. During his first year in the Motor City, he led the Tigers to the World Series and was named American League Manager of the Year.
