Oklahoma Baptist University Names Olympic Hero Mary Lou Retton Featured Speaker for Green and Gold Gala

Olympic champion Mary Lou Retton is coming to Oklahoma Baptist University in the new year. She will be the featured speaker at the school's sixth annual Green and Gold Gala.

The event takes place on March 8th at the Chevy Bricktown Events Center in Oklahoma City. Proceeds raised from the festivities go towards student scholarships at OBU.

Tickets are currently on sale for $150 to the general public, $100 for members of the school faculty and staff and $80 for students. There are also sponsorships and corporate tables available.

Retton was the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in gymnastics when she took home the all-around title in 1984. She gave way to an entire generation of Team USA success in the sport.

That year, Retton also won a silver medal in the team and vault competitions while scoring a bronze for the uneven bars and floor exercise. She also won three American Cups before retiring from competition in 1986.

Retton remains a top motivational speaker and fitness advocate. She is a member of the USOC Olympic Hall of Fame.
