The United Way of Amarillo and Canyon has a special fundraiser coming this week. The Texas-based chapter hosts their annual Kick Off event at the Civic Center's Heritage Ballroom on Thursday. 

Notre Dame legend Rudy Ruettiger is serving as keynote speaker. Campaign co-chair Russell Lowry-Hart and Dr. Dana West will also share some thoughts. 

Individual tickets are $30 and a table of eight costs $240. Ruettiger will give a presentation that inspires others to be their best. 

While Ruettiger was not one of the best players on the field during his time with the Fighting Irish, his story certainly resonates. He was an undersized player who earned a walk-on spot at Notre Dame. 

After being used on the practice squad, Ruettiger got to see action in his final game. He recorded a sack in his final play and was carried off the field by his teammates. 

Ruettiger was the inspiration for the 1993 film, Rudy. He has used his notoriety to inspire thousands as a motivational speaker.
