NHL Legend Neal Broten Pulls in Big Crowd at Autograph Signing

Even though his playing career ended almost 20 years ago, hockey fans in Minnesota still cannot get enough of Neal Broten.  Broten signed autographs at Fan HQ in Crossroads Center in the St. Cloud area Saturday.

The line started forming a half an hour before the event.  Broten is a Wisconsin native, but still heads back to the state he played the majority of his career in for several signings each year.

His standout 17-year playing career earned him induction into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.  Some consider him the greatest player to ever come from Minnesota.

Broten was known early on in his career for leading the University of Minnesota to a national championship and playing on the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” U.S. hockey team.  He also was the first-ever recipient of the Hobey Baker Award, now given annually to the top player in college hockey.

With the Minnesota North Stars in 1985-86, Broten became the first American player to tally over 100 points in a season.  The two-time All-Star also played for the Dallas Stars when the franchise was relocated and has his number retired.

Currently, Broten helps his wife manage the Sally Broten Horse Company.
