New York Yankees Legend Derek Jeter Highlights Baseball Delegation Heading to Cuba

Major League Baseball is embarking on a historical trip to Cuba for an exhibition game next Tuesday between the Tampa Bay Rays and Cuban National Team.  For the first trip of any team since 1999 to the baseball-crazed island it makes sense to have one of the sport's all-time greats in tow.

Recently retired New York Yankees great Derek Jeter will join the MLB delegation in Cuba.  He will participate in children's clinics and other events around the game.

Cuban-born former major leaguers Luis Tiant and Jose Cardenal will also join Jeter on the trip.  U.S. President Barack Obama is also visiting Cuba at the same time and is reportedly set to make an appearance at the game.

Just a year into his retirement, there may be no better ambassador for baseball than Jeter.  He played 20 big league seasons and is considered one of the game's great winners with five World Series rings.

Jeter's 3,465 hits are a Yankess record and he also holds franchise records for doubles, games played, stolen bases, times on base, plate appearances, and at-bats.  He is one of the greatest shortstops ever with 14 All-Star selections, five Gold Gloves, and five Silver Slugger Awards under his belt.

For over a decade, Jeter was the captain in New  York.  He holds several postseason records and hit .321 for his career in the World Series.
