New York Yankees Legend Bobby Richardson Speaks at October’s Gaston County Sports Hall of Fame Induction

One of the New York Yankees all-time greats is scheduled to speak this October at the Gaston County Sports Hall of Fame ceremonies in North Carolina.  Bobby Richardson will present at the induction. 

The event will be held at the Gastonia Conference Center on October 3rd.  For former Major League Baseball players are being inducted, including recent names like Wes Helms and Kevin Millwood. 

Beginning August 8th, tickets for $35 will be available at several local spots.  Richardson also spoke at the 1967 Hall of Fame induction. 

That speech was delivered the year after Richardson retired following a 12-year big league tenure  He spent his entire career with the Yankees and was named an American League All-Star eight times. 

Richardson was one of the best defensive players of his era and won five Gold Gloves for his work at second base.  He competed in seven World Series, winning three of them. 

Most notably, in 1960 Richardson became the only player to ever win World Series MVP as a member of the losing team.  In retirement, he became a college baseball head coach at South Carolina, Coastal Carolina and Liberty University.
