Miami Coach Al Golden Speaks at South Florida Player Development Seminar

University of Miami head coach Al Golden gave a speech to several high school head coaches Friday right in his back yard.  He was the keynote speaker Friday at a player development conference at Pompano Beach High School.

The session had representatives from all 32 Broward County Athletic Association schools.  The NFL put the event together along with the BCAA.

Golden stressed ways to build up athletes off the field, not just on it.  Joining the coach at the seminar was former NFL wide receiver Antonio Freeman, former Dolphins player Troy Drayton, ex-Miami defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle, and retired NFL referee Al Riveron.

Golden is 28-22 in four seasons with the Canes.  His best season was in 2013 when UM was as high as seventh in the polls and finished 9-3.

Even more importantly, Golden helped the program through a cloud created by potential NCAA sanctions that related to things that happened prior to his tenure.  In addition to his time at Miami, he coached at Temple, finishing 9-4 and 8-4 in his final two seasons with the Owls.

Golden played collegiately for Joe Paterno at Penn State.  His first college coaching opportunity came as a graduate assistant at Virginia.
