Maurice Clarett Expands Mission as Motivational Speaker with Autobiography

Maurice Clarett's life story has taken many turns, but his ability to persevere has inspired many. He is looking to help even more people get on the right track with the release of his autobiography, "One and Done: How My Life Started When My Football Career Ended."

The book takes readers through the star of story of Clarett's rise to college football star at Ohio State, his challenge of NFL Draft rules and his ultimate failure in the pros. It also chronicles how those situations led him down the wrong path and what he did to overcome those obstacles and find success.

Clarett officially released the self-published book on November 19 as part of the Herbert Weyl Jewish Business Network lunch at LifePath Columbus at the Lori Schottenstein Chabad Center. Bob Eckhart, an English teacher and mentor of his at Ohio State, helped him write the book and his former Buckeyes coach, Jim Tressel, wrote the introduction.

All proceeds from the book are going back towards Clarett's RedZone Foundation with the goal in mind to construct a wellness center. He wants to help people that need life skills and mental health treatment.

Clarett had a banner freshman season at OSU, winning Big 10 Freshman of the Year and the 2002 National Championship. After the season, he was dismissed from the school due to an academic scandal and he subsequently unsuccessfully challenged the NFL Draft's eligibility rules.

Clarett suffered from depression as well as alcohol and drug abuse issues while he still chased his dream of playing pro football. He went on to spend over three years in prison on robbery and other charges.

Clarett worked on turning his life around and has become successful in providing others mental health, addiction and recovery services through The Red Zone. He has also become a prison reform activist and top motivational keynote speaker for schools and business organizations.
