Legendary Coach Roy Williams Speaks at a Hall of Fame Ceremony in North Carolina

North Carolina head coach Roy Williams leant his speaking services to a long-running annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony.  Williams was the featured speaker at the 27th edition of the Gaston County Sports Hall of Fame enshrinement.

The ceremony was held on June 22nd at the Gastonia Conference Center.  Tickets cost $35 to hear Williams and honor a five-person class headlined by former NBA player Darrell Armstrong.

Williams has won six ACC titles and the two national championships with the Tar Heels.  He has 750 career victories and is second all-time in wins at UNC to a man he spent a decade as an assistant under, Dean Smith.

Prior to arriving at Chapel Hill, Williams was the head coach at Kansas from 1988-2003.  He sits behind another legend, Phog Allen, on the Jayhawks career coaching wins list.

Overall, Williams has guided his teams to seven Final Fours.  Rick Pitino is the only other coach to take two separate programs to the Final Four.

While he is still racking up achievements, his accomplishments were honored with induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007.   North Carolina finished 26-12 last year and Williams is hopeful that even more success awaits the squad for the 2015-16 season.
