Legendary Baseball Manager Jim Leyland Speaks at the Freedom Township Men’s Club Sports Night

The wisdom that can be dispensed by retired baseball manager Jim Leyland can be invaluable.  on Wednesday, he will drop some of that knowledge as the guest speaker at the 28th annual Freedom Township Men's Club Sports Night.

The event is taking place at the Ridgeville American Legion in Ohio.  Tickets will be available at the door for $25.

Doors for the evening open at 5:30 with a cash bar and dinner begins at 6:30.  As a native of Perrysburg, Ohio, the homecoming of sorts will be special for Leyland.

Leyland ranks 15th all-time on the MLB managerial wins list with 1,769 victories.  He had success at nearly ever stop he made as a manager.

Originally starting his managerial career with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Leyland was a two-time National League Manager of the Year and went to three-straight NLCS' with the franchise.

When he joined the Florida Marlins in 1997, Leyland led the club to their first World Series championship.  He also managed the Colorado Rockies, before taking a break from the game and jumping back in with the Detroit Tigers in 2006.

Leyland perhaps had his greatest run of sustained excellence with Detroit.  He led the Tigers to two World Series appearances and three American League Central titles.
