Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Speaks About Being Muslim with Northwestern Students

Basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has long been outspoken on a variety of social issues.  This month, Abdul-Jabbar visited with Muslim students at Northwestern University.

He was the keynote speaker at the Muslim-cultural Students Association event on November 6th.  Abdul-Jabbar shared his experience as a public figure and convert to the religion.

The NBA’s all-time leading scorer also addressed various other problems affecting society today.  Tickets for the event at Ryan Auditorium on campus were free.

Abdul-Jabbar had a storied 20-year NBA career and won a record six MVP trophies.  He made 19 All-Star teams as well, more than any other player.

In addition to individual accolades, Abdul-Jabbar experienced a high-degree of winning.  He grabbed six NBA titles, one with the Milwaukee Bucks and five with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Adbul-Jabbar’s success on the court first gained him notoriety while in college at UCLA.  He was a three-time national player of the year and won three NCAA championships as a Bruin.

His jersey has been retired by both the Bucks and the Lakers.  Abdul-Jabbar is a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame and College Basketball Hall of Fame.
