Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Alex Smith Hosts His Youth Camp

More than 200 Kansas City area kids got to live out a dream this past Wednesday and Thursday.  They got hands on instruction from Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith.

Smith hosted the Hy-Vee Alex Smith Football ProCamp for campers in grades 1-8.  Other area high school and college coaches assisted him in the two-day event.

In recent years, Smith has been a model of consistency.  He is entering his third year starting for the Chiefs after eight seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.

Smith’s first season with Kansas City saw him net Pro Bowl honors after throwing for 3,313 yards with 23 touchdowns against just seven interceptions.  He also had a magical season in San Francisco in 2011, setting team records for game winning drives, fourth quarter comebacks, and fewest interceptions.

The Niners made Smith the first overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft.  As a collegiate junior, he became one of the first stars at Utah for three-time National Championship head coach Urban Meyer.

Smith finished fourth in voting for the Heisman Trophy that season and won the Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year.  The Utes crashed the BCS party and their quarterback was named MVP of the Fiesta Bowl.
