Hall of Famer John Smoltz to Speak at Prep Awards Banquet in Chattanooga

When the Atlanta Braves took off as the baseball team of the South in the 1990s, John Smoltz was a vital part of the team’s success.  On June 1st, he will be the featured speaker for an event in one of those Braves stronghold towns, Chattanooga, Tennessee.

At the Times Free Press Best of Preps banquet, Smoltz will help honor local high school stars and share stories from his Hall of Fame career.  The evening will start at 6 P.M. at the Chattanooga Convention Center.

Smoltz is one of the great playoff pitchers of all-time.  He was around for the entire run of 14 consecutive division titles for the Braves.

In 41 playoff appearances, he went 15-4.  Smoltz was the 1992 NLCS MVP and won a World Series in Atlanta in 1995.

Overall, he was an eight-time All-Star during his 21 seasons.  The 1996 National League Cy Young winner will be enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown in July.

Smoltz remains an active public figure and is a color analyst for FOX Sports.
