Four-Time Olympic Gold Medalist Missy Franklin Inks First Endorsement Deal with Speedo

Swimmer Missy Franklin has been in the public spotlight for some time, but she is just starting to get to cash in on that acclaim now.  After turning professional in March, Franklin will race in her first pro event this weekend at the Arena Pro Swim Series Santa Clara.

With her collegiate career at Cal in rearview mirror, she has also inked her first endorsement deal with Speedo.  The swimwear company will benefit from the publicity Franklin generates in the lead-up to the 2016 Olympics.

The newest Team Speedo ambassador will endorse and wear all products.  Speedo is also tabbing Franklin to lead their efforts promoting the addition of water activities to an everyday workout regimen.

After a four gold medal performance at the 2012 Olympics, Franklin became one of the most recognizable faces in swimming.  While only 17 years old, she set the world record in the 200-meter backstroke and assisted in breaking the world record with the 4x100-meter relay team.

Franklin’s 100-meter backstroke performance in London also set a new American record.  In addition to the gold medals, she captured a bronze with the 400-meter relay team.

Success did not stop at the Olympics for Franklin.  The following year, she won six golds and became the most decorated female swimmer at any individual World Championships.

Most recently, Franklin led her Golden Bears to an NCAA Championship and won three individual titles.  She currently is training back home in Colorado with the goal of swimming seven events next summer in Rio.

As we get closer to those Games, expect Franklin to add other endorsements alongside the Speedo pact.  In May, Sports Pro named her the fourth most marketable athlete in the world.
