Former MLB All-Star Matt Williams Speaks at Chico Nuts Fundraiser This Spring

Former MLB All-Star Matt Williams is a San Francisco Bay Area sports hero. This spring, he should be well received as the speaker at the Chico American Legion Baseball Spring Fever dinner. 

The event will be held on March 2nd at the Elks Lodge in Manzanita Place and individual tickets are $50 for adults and $35 for kids. Everyone in attendance will get to meet Williams and get an autograph. 

Williams will also participate in a small luncheon at La Hacienda during the day. Proceeds raised from the events will go towards the Chico Nuts, who won a state title this season. 

Williams played for the San Francisco Giants from 1987-1996 and made four of his five All-Star teams with the club. He was a four-time Gold Glove Award and four-time Silver Slugger Award winner. 

Williams went to a World Series with each of the three franchises he played for and won a championship with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2001. He finished his career with 378 home runs. 

Williams became a Diamondbacks coach in 2009. He served as the Washington Nationals manager for two seasons and was named National League Manager of the Year in 2014.
