Duke Baseball Names Three-Time World Series Champion Bobby Richardson First Pitch Banquet Speaker

Even though he starred decades ago, Bobby Richardson still stands as one of the most accomplished players in the history of the New York Yankees. He will share some experiences from his career as the speaker at the Duke baseball First Pitch Banquet.

The event will take place February 4th in the PNC Triangle Club at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Individual tickets cost $60 and corporate tables are $300.

All Duke baseball alumni and their families are invited for free. It should be a great night to meet the 2017 Blue Devils and hear from a great speaker.

Richardson manned second base for the Yankees from 1955-66. During that span, he won three World Series titles with the club and was an eight-time All-Star.

In 1960, Richardson hit .367 with 12 RBI in the Fall Classic on his way to World Series MVP honors. He was also known as a great defensive player and won five straight Gold Gloves from 1961-65.

After he retired, Richardson was the head baseball coach at South Carolina from 1970-76 and led the Gamecocks to their first College World Series appearance. He also coached at Liberty University and Coastal Carolina.
