Dallas Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban and Former Cowboys Star Emmitt Smith Promote Statewide Mental Health Initiative

Two top Dallas sports personalities have teamed to raise awareness for mental health.  The Dallas-based Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute launched a campaign featuring Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and former Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith

The effort is geared to encourage Texans to seek psychological help.  There is also a website launched called okaytosay.org that allows people to tell their stories about mental health and offer support.

Cuban and Smith both recorded public information video messages for the cause.  The Mavs' owner has had a personal brush with mental illness as his brother Brian dealt with eating disorders.

Cuban took majority ownership of the Mavericks in 2000.  The franchise has reached new heights under his leadership, regularly reaching the playoffs and going to two NBA Finals.

Media and fans alike love Cuban for his colorful personality and love of the game.  He is often seen sitting near the Dallas bench both at home and on the road.

In addition to his success in basketball, Cuban has been an innovative technology entrepreneur.  He is also well known as a star investor on the show Shark Tank.

Smith is the NFL's all-time leading rusher after compiling 18,355 yards over 15 seasons.  He also is the league's all-time leader with 164 rushing touchdowns and 78 100-yard games.

Smith helped the Cowboys win three Super Bowls and was MVP of Super Bowl XXVIII.  The eight-time Pro Bowler was a four-time first-team All-Pro.

In 1993, Smith was the unanimous NFL MVP.  He is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor.
