Baseball Legend Cal Ripken Jr. Keynotes Arkansas Prep Awards Banquet

One would be hard-pressed to find a better role model for athletes than baseball great Cal Ripken Jr.  On Saturday, some of the top athletes in Arkansas got to get life lessons from the "Iron Horse".

Ripken was the keynote speaker at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette All-Arkansas Preps Award Banquet.  The banquet was held at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock and it honored over 300 athletes from ten different sports.

Ripken shared several stories from his career.  He also participated in a question and answer session that allowed some of the athletes ask questions.

There certainly was no shortage of queries for the man who set baseball's consecutive games played streak.  Over a 21-year career, Ripken not only proved durable, but also left a lasting legacy as one of the best hitting shortstops in the history of the game.

All told, Ripken racked up over 3,000 hits and slugged 431 home runs.  He was named to 19 All-Star teams and was a two-time American League MVP.

In retirement, Ripken is a successful businessman and CEO of Ripken Baseball, Inc.  He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007.
