Andre Iguodala Speaks About Being a Venture Capitalist at Players Technology Summit

Ever since he joined the Golden State Warriors, Andre Iguodala decided to immerse himself in the world of technology. He has become one of sports top venture capitalists and created the Players Technology Summit.

The event was held in conjunction with Bloomberg and took place last Tuesday in San Francisco. Iguodala envisioned it three years ago as the perfect place to bring together athletes, entrepreneurs and investors.

In addition to helping more sports stars get involved in tech, Iguodala also released his memoir, "The Sixth Man." He has been investors in companies like Zoom, PagerDuty and Jumia that recently had successful IPOs.

Iguodala hit on several topics related to his turn towards venture capital when speaking to outlets at the summit. He shared his personal investing process in addition to other things on The Street Podcast

"That's a great question. I don't personally invest in [equities], but I have my wealth management team and if I have something like, yo, I want to buy this, they'll get it for me. But for the most part, I like Warren [Buffet's] philosophy of investing in things that you know will be around in 10 years. [And] you've gotta be able to diversify with riskier investments and safe investments. So when you talk about equities and the public markets, I'm going with Warren's philosophy."

Iguodala has built impressive credentials on the court in concert with his off the court portfolio. He was an All-Star in 2012 and twice named to the NBA's All-Defensive Team.

Iguodala is best known for winning three championships while playing the last six years of his career with the Warriors. He was also named NBA Finals MVP in 2015, gaining high praise for his defense in the series against LeBron James

The Philadelphia 76ers originally selected Iguodala with the ninth pick in the 2004 NBA Draft. Outside of the league, he had success as a member of Team USA, winning an Olympic gold medal in 2012.
