Todd Richards Biography

Todd Richards played in the NHL as a defense man from 1989 to 2002 after being selected with the 33rd overall pick in the 1985 NHL Draft by the Montreal Canadiens. During his time in the NHL he played with the Hartford Whalers and was one of their most reliable stoppers on the defensive end. After retiring in 2002 he turned his focus to coaching and served as an assistant for the Milwaukee Admirals for four seasons. In 2006 he was hired to coach the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and won 50 games in first season which caught the attention of the San Jose Sharks, who hired him as their head coach in 2008. He’s since coached the Minnesota Wild and Columbus Blue Jackets. In 2014 he led the Blue Jackets to a playoff appearance and 43 wins during the regular season.
