Roberto Osuna Biography

Roberto Osuna is a pitcher for the Houston Astros. He originally debuted for the Blue Jays in 2015 and established himself as the team's closer. Osuna recorded 20 saves in that debut campaign and finished fourth in American League Rookie of the Year voting. He also became the youngest player in American League history to notch a postseason save. Osuna again helped the Blue Jays reach the playoffs in 2016, recording 36 saves and a 2.68 ERA. He was named to his first All-Star team in 2017 and the following year, he became the youngest pitcher in baseball history to notch 100 saves. Osuna was also traded to Houston in 2018. In 2019, he led the American League with 38 saves and helped the Astros reach the World Series.

Toronto originally signed him out of Mexico as a 16-year-old. When he made the appearance in 2015, he became the youngest pitcher in franchise history. In 2017, Osuna became the youngest player in major league history to record 75 career saves. He was also named to his first All-Star team. Osuna's father, Roberto Sr., pitched for 22 seasons in the Mexican League. His uncle, Antonio, spent 11 seasons in the big leagues.
