Nadia Comaneci Biography

Nadia Comaneci is one of the most well-known gymnasts in the world. She was born in Romania, and early on in life while still in kindergarten she began gymnastics. It did not take long for Nadia to improve her skill and continue to get better. She had her first major international success when she was just 13 years old as she nearly swept the 1975 European Championships in Norway by winning gold medals in every event except the floor exercise where she came in second. That success led to the international community taking notice and she was named the United Press International’s 1975 Female Athlete of the Year. Nadia is most known for her incredible success in the Olympic Games including a bronze medal, three silver medals, and five gold medals. She became the first Romanian gymnast to win the Olympic all-around title, and holds the record for being the youngest Olympic all-around champion when she won the title at just 14 years old.
