Jeff Clark Biography

Jeff Clark is widely considered to be one of the most notably respected big-wave surfers of his time. Clark grew up as your typical California surfer dude throughout the 1960’s. Although born in the city, he moved to a California beach with his family on Half Moon Bay at a very young age. Clark is credited for discovering a location that he surfed in alone for fifteen years while others considered it unsafe. This location, known as Maverick’s, has now become identified as a big-wave surfing community. In addition, Clark is also credited with being one of the few ambidextrous big-wave surfers in the world. He has also been labeled as one of the “world’s best big-wave riders” by Surfer Magazine in the 1990’s and has since been featured in several films along with becoming the only surfer to be inducted into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame. Along with excelling tremendously at the sport, Clark has used his hard work, dedication and talent to support others as he founded the annual Mavericks Surf Contest with surf clothing manufacturer, Quiksilver. Along he no longer runs this contest, he has given joy to many people over the years through its establishment. Clark currently owns Mavericks Surf Shop in his childhood neighborhood where he sells his own line of surfboards and clothing and gives back to the community that he gained so much from over the years.
