Cliff Harris Biography

No matter what level, to have a stadium named after you is a very high honor; which is exactly what Cliff Harris deserves after his NFL career. Out of high school, Harris only received one scholarship offer: Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas. At OBU he was a diverse defensive back and was twice named to All-Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference teams. Coming from such a small school, Harris was not selected in the 1970 NFL Draft but was given a chance by the Dallas Cowboys to come to training camp. In his rookie season, Harris came in and won the starting free safety position outright. Harris was one of the best free safeties in the game and helped the Cowboys defense rank in the top 10 every season he was with them. As one of only 13 players in NFL history to appear in 5 Super Bowls, winning two of them, Harris was also a 6x Pro Bowl selection and 4x first-team All-Pro team member. After a 10 year NFL career, has both a stadium (OBU’s Cliff Harris Stadium) and a trophy (the Cliff Harris Award for best defensive back in non-Div. 1 college football) named in his honor.
