Ryne Sandberg Named Featured Speaker for Charleston RiverDogs Hot Stove Banquet and Auction

The Charleston RiverDogs have scored a big guest from the baseball world for their annual Hot Stove Banquet and Auction.  Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg will be the featured speaker at the event January 22nd.

The Charleston Marriott will host the evening and individual tickets cost $70.  The price includes dinner, a table gift, and an autograph or photo.

Proceeds from the Hot Stove Banquet benefit three college baseball programs in South Carolina: The Citadel, The College of Charleston, and Charleston Southern.  The Singleton Memorial Fund, named for the mother of former big leaguer Chris Singleton, will also be benefited.

Sandberg is one of the most beloved players in Chicago Cubs history.  He was a ten-time All-Star and a nine-time Gold Glove winner at second base.

The highlight of Sandberg’s career came in 1984.  He hit .314 with 36 doubles, 19 triples, 19 home runs, and 84 RBI on the way to National League Most Valuable Player honors.

Sandberg has worked as a baseball manager since 2006.  After starting out in the minor leagues, he managed the Philadelphia Phillies for the past three seasons.
