Retired Outfielder Jesse Barfield Speaks at Athletes in Action Banquet

Next Thursday, old school Toronto Blue Jays fans could be in for a treat. Former outfielder Jesse Barfield is the keynote speaker at the 36th annual Athletes in Action Banquet in Timmons, Ontario.

The evening is being hosted by Grace Bible Chapel at Porcupine Dante Club.  It begins at 7 p.m.

Tickets are on sale for $30.  The event stands as an opportunity to give people an informal look into the practices of the churhc.

Barfield starred in right field for the Blue Jays for nine seasons.  During that period, he was regarded as having one of the strongest arms in baseball.

From 1985-87, Barfield led American League outfielders in assists each season and won two Gold Gloves.  There is no question that 1986 was also his best season at the plate.

That year, Barfield hit .289 with an AL-best 40 home runs and 108 RBI.  He made his only All-Star team and was awarded the Silver Slugger.

Barfield played the final three-plus seasons of his career with the New York Yankees.  He currently resides in Houston, Texas and serves as a hitting instructor at Competitive Edge Sports.
