Olympic Judo Champion Kayla Harrison Speaks at Camp BLAST

As an Olympic judo champion, Kayla Harrison is a tremendous role model for the youth of America. She got the opportunity to address a group of youngsters this week in Lakeland, Florida.

Harrison was a guest speaker at Camp BLAST at the Simpson Park Community Center. The weeklong camp was put on by the city of Lakeland.

Harrison was able to talk about judo and show off some of her moves as part of the camp's Olympic Day. She enjoyed being able to educate the kids about a sport that often flies under the radar.

Harrison competes in the 78 kg weight division and won a gold medal at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics. She won a gold at the World Championships in 2010 and is a two-time Worlds bronze medalist.

Harrison had gold medals from the 2011 and 2015 Pan American Games. In 2008, she switched to the 78 kg division for the first time and won the World Junior Championship.

Last year, Harrison became the youngest person in U.S. history to become a 6th Degree Black Belt. She currently works as a commentator for the World Series of Fighting and plans to take up competitive mixed martial arts in the future.
