Olympic Figure Skating Medalist Janet Lynn Holds Illinois Book Signing

One of the most influential American figure skaters was back where it all began yesterday afternoon.  Former Olympic medal winner Janet Lynn held a book signing in Rockton, Illinois.

Lynn had attended nearby Guilford High School.  She signed copies of her book, "The Wheel Legacy of Excellence" at the Rockton Township Historical Society.

The 250 copies of Lynn's book sold out at the event and organizers were forced to order back copies.  There were even some attendees who brought momentos from yesteryear.

Lynn won the Olympic bronze medal for ladies' singles in 1972.  She also won a silver and bronze medal in the event during her career at the World Championships.

Most notably, Lynn was a five-time U.S. National Champion.  Her dominance over the sport drew her a legion of fans in America during the 1970's.

After her amateur career, Lynn signed a deal with the touring Ice Follies that made her the highest-paid female athlete of her time.  After retiring from the sport in 1975, she has been sought after as a popular motivational speaker, particularly for faith-based groups.
