Legendary Texas A&M Coach R.C. Slocum Keynotes School’s Annual Muster Ceremony

There are not many figures more respected in Texas A&M history than longtime football coach R.C. Slocum.  That makes him an ideal candidate to speak at the school's annual Muster ceremony.

Each year, the Aggie Muster remembers alumni and students who lost their lives over the past year.  There are ceremonies held throughout the country, but the largest one is right in College Station at Reed Arena.

Last Thursday, Slocum was able to keynote that event.  While speaking about how honored he is by the responsibility, he also stressed that people keep focus on what Muster is meant for.

Slocum coached Texas A&M from 1989-2002, finishing with a head coaching record of 123-47-2.  He won four conference titles and posted five double-digit win seasons.

Slocum's 123 wins are the most in Aggies history.  In ten of his 14 seasons, his teams finished inside the top 25 in either the AP or Coaches' poll.

Outside of one season as the defensive coordinator at USC, Slocum was a coach at some capacity at Texas A&M from 1972 to stepping down as head coach in 2002.  In 2012, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
