Kansas State Basketball Coach Bruce Weber Speaks at UMKC Tip-Off Dinner on Tuesday

Kansas State basketball coach Bruce Weber is being enlisted to help another program in the state raise money. He is speaking at the UMKC Tip-Off Dinner on Tuesday.

The fifth-annual event will be held in downtown Kansas City. In addition to fundraising, the dinner serves as an opportunity for the community to meet the 2017 Kangaroo basketball team.

Some of the donations go towards vital equipment that will benefit the entire athletic department.  Festivities begin at 6 p.m. with a reception and silent auction.

Weber has been the head coach of the Wildcats for five seasons and guided the program to the NCAA Tournament three times. In his first year on the job, KSU tied for first in the Big 12 and he was named Coach of the Year in the conference.

From 2003-12, Weber was the head coach at the University of Illinois. He won two Big Ten regular season titles and led the Illini to the Final Four in 2005.

Weber got his first head coaching opportunity at Southern Illinois University and the Salukis reached the Sweet Sixteen in 2002. He began his coaching career with assistant coaching stints at Western Kentucky and Purdue.
