Hall of Famer Rod Carew Speaks at Baseball Celebration in Iowa

On July 3rd, Hall of Famer Rod Carew will help Iowa’s Clay County put a ribbon on seven months of baseball celebration.  Carew will be the special speaker at a picnic dinner at the Clay County Regional Events Center.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for kids, and can be purchased at http://www.claycountybaseball.com/.  Earlier that day, Carew will meet with local little league, high school, and college players.

Clay County has been celebrating 78 years of baseball in the area. Another event that spotlights the weekend is an alumni game featuring former area high school players.

Carew is one of the greatest hitters in baseball history.  The 18-time All-Star was a model of consistency and took home seven American League batting titles.

For his tremendous efforts, the Minnesota Twins and the Los Angeles Angels have both retired his jersey.  Carew hit .388 for the Twins in 1977 and won the AL MVP.

Following his playing career, he was a major league hitting coach.  Carew is still an ambassador for Major League Baseball and is beloved by many who grew up watching him collect 3,053 hits.
