Gold Medal Swimmer Missy Franklin Signs Year-Long Sponsor Deal with Wheaties

There may be no better face for a brand heading into the Olympics than gold medal swimmer Missy Franklin.  Franklin's endorsement portfolio is getting ready to explode and she became a member of Team Wheaties last week.

Franklin agreed to a year-long deal with the cereal that has often featured athletes in an iconic fashion over the years on its box.  It is not immediately known whether the American swimmer will get the box treatment as part of the agreeement.

After turning pro last January, Franklin signed an endorsement deal with Speedo.  She joins athletes like motocross champion Ryan Dungey, triathlete Hunter Kemper, and snowboarder Sage Kotsenburg.

Franklin burst on to the national radar by winning four gold medals and one bronze at the 2012 Olympics.  She became the first American in 40 years to win the 200-meter backstroke and currently holds the world record in that event.

That Olympic year, she was named American Swimmer of the Year, Swimming World World Swimmer of the Year, and FINA Swimmer of the Year.  Franklin also boasts 11 World Championship gold medals, the most of any woman ever.

For over two years, Franklin eschewed opportunities to turn professional in order to swim collegiately at the University of California.  Overall, she was a four-time individual NCAA champion for the Golden Bears and won the 2015 ESPY for Female College Athlete of the Year.
