Former NBA Player Etan Thomas Visits Cornell for Book Talk Next Week

Former NBA player Etan Thomas has spent his post-playing career exploring the conversion of athletes and activism. He has even penned the book, "We Matter: Athletes and Activism."

Thomas has been invited to discuss the book by Cornell University. He will make his visit to the school on February 27th at 4:30 p.m. in the Goldwin Smith Hall's Kaufmann Auditorium.

The lecture is free to the public and a book signing sponsored by the American Studies Program will follow the program. While on campus, Thomas will also speak to the Sports and Politics in American History class.

Thomas had a nine-year career as a big man with the Washington Wizards, Oklahoma City Thunder and Atlanta Hawks. He played college basketball at Syracuse University and was a first-team All-Big East pick.

Even during his career, Thomas was politically active. He was the recipient of the 2010 National Basketball Players Association Community Contribution Award and the 2009 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Foundation Legacy Award.

In addition to his most recent book, Thomas has published a book of poetry and an autobiography. He has also written for The Washington Post, Huffington Post, CNN and ESPN.
