Dallas Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban Funds Sports Media Technology Center at Indiana

Indiana University is getting some state of the art broadcast technology via one of their most famous alumni.  Business entrepreneur and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has donated $5 million to the school to create the Mark Cuban Center for Sports Media and Technology.

The center will open in 2017 and be housed in IU’s Assembly Hall.  It will be equipped with the latest in 3D broadcast technology that will create unique content for all 24 Hoosiers athletic teams.

There will also be scores of 3D cameras placed at Memorial Stadium and Assembly Hall.  The tools available at the center will also enrich various programs at the university.

Cuban graduated from Indiana in 1981 and shortly after started off on a successful business career.  In 1999, he sold Broadcast.com in the height of the .com boom for $5.7 billion in Yahoo stock.

Since, he has diversified his business interests.  Cuban purchased the Dallas Mavericks in 2000 and quickly became on the NBA’s best and most passionate owners.

The Mavs have been a perennial playoff contender under his leadership and won the 2011 NBA Finals.  Cuban has also become well known as a panelist on the ABC reality TV series, Shark Tank.
