Collibra Names Moneyball Subject Paul DePodesta Keynote Speaker for Data Citizens Conference

Cleveland Browns executive Paul DePodesta is one of the forerunners for advanced analytics in sports. He will talk about how the organizations he has worked with have used this information as the keynote speaker at Colibra's third annual Data Citizens Conference.

The conference runs April 30-May 2 in Jersey City, New Jersey and nearly 500 attendees are expected. The proceedings serve as the largest gathering for data governance professionals in the world.

DePodesta will specifically address how data has informed his evaluation of talent. The entire event will provide participants with new perspectives and strategies to take back to their own businesses.

After graduating from Harvard with a degree in economics, DePodesta began his sports career working in the Canadian Football League and the American Hockey League. He found a home in baseball when he joined the Cleveland Indians in 1996.

DePodesta became an assistant general manager under Billy Beane with the Oakland A's in 1999. His contributions to the small-market team became one of the focus points of the bestselling book and subsequent Hollywood film, Moneyball

DePodesta also previously served as the general manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers and worked in the front offices of the San Diego Padres and New York Mets. He is currently the Chief Strategy Officer for the Browns.
