Canadiens Defensemen P.K. Subban Donates $10 Million to Montreal Children's Hospital

Many athletes give a great deal to charities and start their own foundations.  Not many give the gift Montreal Canadiens defender P.K. Subban recently did.

Subban pledged $10 million over the next seven years through his foundation to the Montreal Children’s Hospital.  As a result of the donation, families will receive added financial assistance while dealing with their child’s ailments.

Over the years, Subban has had an active relationship with the hospital that factored into his decision.  There is now a new three-floor wing named “Atrium P.K. Subban”.

Subban has played his entire six-year career in Montreal.  He recently signed an eight-year, $72 million extension that basically makes him a Canadien for life.

Following the 2012-13 season, Subban won the James Norris Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s top defensemen.  That year he was also named to the first of his two First All-Star Teams.

In addition to his community work and stellar play on the ice, Subban is also an alternate captain for the Canadiens.  He has skated for Olympic gold with Canada as well at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi.
