Boston Red Sox Slugger David Ortiz Hosts His 8th Annual Celebrity Golf Classic

Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz is passionate about where he came from and the city that has embraced him.  To support those communities, Ortiz hosts an annual celebrity golf tournament.

The eighth edition of the David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Classic takes place December 3-6 at the Sanctuary Resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.  Two rounds of golf, a celebrity pairings party, and awards gala are just some of the events that highlight the experience.

Proceeds benefit Ortiz’s Children’s Fund that he initially started in 2006. The DOCF gives back to the Dominican Republic and parts of the Northeastern U.S. to assist with youth pediatric care.

Ortiz is one of the most beloved players in Red Sox history and potentially the greatest designated hitter in baseball history.  This past season, he became the 27th player in MLB history to hit 500 home runs.

The nine-time All-Star has helped lead Boston to three World Series titles.  In 2013, he hit .688 with two homers and six RBI during the Fall Classic on the way to World Series MVP honors.

Ortiz played the first six seasons of his career with the Minnesota Twins, but became a star in Boston.  Whenever he eventually hangs it up, “Big Papi” will forever be remembered for his endearing personality and propensity for clutch hits on the biggest stages.
