1986 World Series Heroes Darryl Strawberry, Jesse Orosco and Howard Johnson Sign at Modell's Times Square

With World Series hoopla at full steam in The Big Apple, Modell’s in Times Square turned back the clock Thursday with stars of another great New York Mets team.  1986 Fall Classic heroes Darryl Strawberry, Jesse Orosco, and Howard Johnson signed autographs for fans at the iconic store.

The trio also participated in a live Q&A from 12:30-1:00 p.m. and signed from 1:00-2:30.  Passes for the event were distributed to the first 100 fans and only items bought at Modell’s could be autographed.

With the series shifting to Citi Field for Game 3 tonight, excitement is certainly at a fever pitch.  It is a feeling all too familiar to Strawberry, Orosco, and Johnson.

Strawberry was the standout of the decade for the Mets, appearing in eight straight All-Star games.  He would later add to his 1986 championship ring with three World Series triumphs as a member of the crosstown New York Yankees.

Orosco is most famously known as baseball’s all-time appearance king after pitching in a record 1,252 games.  He has his best days with the Mets, going to two All-Star games and recording the final outs of both the 1986 NLCS and World Series.

As result of a successful nine-year run, Johnson or “HoJo” is third on the Mets career lists for home runs, RBIs, doubles, and stolen bases.  The two-time champion led the National League in home runs and RBIs in 1991.
